If 5 years seems like a long time to wait to become a U.S. Citizen, have you thought about joining the Armed Forces?

The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Service says more than 33,000 green card holders got accelerated citizenship because they served full time in the military over the last five years.

“It takes 5 years for most green card holders to naturalize,’ according to Capt Kelsey Knitter, Assistant Staff Judge Advocate at Utah’s Hill Air Force Base, “but with approval from their commander, service members can now gain their citizenship after just one year.”

The legal offices of the various service branches also assist spouses and children of service members naturalize. “We’re here to help,” Knitter said.

The U.S. Citizenship Foundation helps all applicants for citizenship pass their citizenship tests and naturalization interviews with free online classes on Zoom. We’re proud to help members of our Armed Forces earn their American Citizenship as well.
