Not so fast! The new N-400 citizenship test put on “brief hold”

USCIS will miss March 1st target to roll out its makeover of the N-400 interview

The long awaited revamp of the U.S. government’s citizenship interview and civics test will have to wait a bit longer. USCIS officers told a packed webinar that the planned roll out of the new version will not happen on March 1st, 2023 as previously announced. They did not say when they expected to unveil the new interview and civics test, but they did not expect the delay to be very long.

The agency previously announced that the new civics test will be multiple choice, rather than the existing test’s “multiple acceptable answer” method. The agency promised that the incorrect answers would be significantly different than the correct answers to avoid confusion.

Additionally, they had also announced that the English Competency portion of the interview would now have a new section where the applicant would be shown a picture, or short series of pictures, and asked to briefly describe what was shown.

At The U.S. Citizenship Foundation we’ll always teach our students the very latest version of the citizenship interview and citizenship test. The USCF monitors developments within all departments of the USCIS, and we update our curriculum whenever there are changes. We offer free online classes on Zoom, with the latest information to prepare our students for their U.S. Citizenship test and citizenship interview.

We’ll update you as soon as there are further developments.
